Media Release: Enhanced Rock Weathering Symposium
Enhanced Rock Weathering Symposium James Cook University will host Australia’s first Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) Symposium tomorrow (25 June 2026),
The aim of this project is to determine the effects of applying crushed basalt on CO2 capture, crop production and soil health through a process known as enhanced rock weathering. This is being done through field trials on a variety of farms and cropping systems across Australia.
We are running seven on-farm field trials in the project. Trial sites are located across banana, avocado, cotton, rice, dairy and two grain sites. These trials aim to explore the potential of basalt in improving soil health and supporting carbon sequestration.
Stay up to date with the latest events, workshops, forums, and field days that we will be attending to keep you informed about enhanced rock weathering.
